MythBusters Takes On “Star Trek”

MythBusters Takes On “Star Trek”

December 21, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

In the classic “Star Trek” episode “Arena,” Captain James T. Kirk builds a canon out of a bamboo log and several minerals found on the planet’s surface.

But could it really work?

The Myth Busters crew will attempt to find out–as well as prove or debunk some other “Trek” mysteries on next Monday’s episode.

Here’s a short preview for the episode, which airs on December 28th on the Discovery Channel.

And if you’d like to check out the original episode before next Monday, you can watch it free on YouTube.

This issue was brilliantly summed up in a demotivational poster:
“Of course Captain Kirk can build a bazooka out of stuff he finds lying around on a planet! That’s why he’s the friggin’ Captain!”

What they really need to do an episode on is how Kirk always managed to talk robots and super computers into destroying themselves. Could come in handy during the upcoming robot uprising…
