Actually my favorite of his is not listed. It was the documentary he did where they took a crew and explored the Titanic using remote control cameras. Simply incredible, they were able to go into cabins and explore. In one they went into a bathroom and a shaving kit was layed out and still rested on a water bowl. His movies are great, but the man also makes some of the best documentries.

Agreed on the above – that was an amazing doc!

    Avatar was excellent…

But, The Abyss will always be one of my favorite films of all time. Avatar may become a close second though. I’m going to see at least once or twice more.

The massive East Coast snow storm stunted Avatar’s box office numbers for its weekend opening. It grossed around $73 million instead of the expected $85 million. Film critics all agree that it will likely make that up and then some over the Christmas weekend.

I saw the film on Sunday and can use one word to describe what I saw —

    PHENOMENAL!

Saw Avatar but in 2D only. Story was very predictable. But Special effects were superb! 5 out of 5 stars and add one more for dazzle! Aliens in my opinion still his best work, though Titanic is strangely missing from above list! Incredible special effects in that one too.

Titantic not on list because the poll only included SF (sci-fi and genre-related) works by Cameron.

This was a very very hard choice for me to make between the original Terminator, Dark Angel and Avatar. I had to choose based on today and so chose Avatar. I hope he continues with more movies on the world of Pandora with the main characters.

In theory his explanation of how the Titanic sank (though I admit is not main to story and Hitchcock would call a McGuffin) is “Science” fiction. The CGI is certainly noteworthy. Certainly the interactions of two lead characters would be considered fantasy by anyone from that era. In any case the very begining with the crew finding the wreck of Titanic is the culmination of Verne’s science fiction into today’s science fact!

I do not have similar arguments for True Lies, though I very much enjoyed that one as well.

I was stuck between Dark Angel and T2: Judgement Day. I picked Dark Angel thinking of season 1.

Avatar missed out on my vote because, and this may sound silly to some, there weren’t enough bugs, birds, and small animals to make the forest seem real. Where were the scavengers, decomposers, and pollinators? Niche organisms would have made Pandora feel like it had an actual forest. It probably would have gotten my vote otherwise.

Avatar easily for the raw emotional impact. All of his sci-fi movies have a wow factor but I was much more emotionally invested in this one. The cool thing was I saw echoes of Aliens and The Abyss, my other two favorite Cameron movies. Also seems a little unfair to pick one because Avatar stands on the shoulders of the others.,
