“SG:U,” “Sanctuary” Renewed

“SG:U,” “Sanctuary” Renewed

December 15, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 12 Comments

stargate_universe_poster2The vocal group of fans of despise “Stargate: Universe” will have at least one more season to call for the show’s cancellation.    And for those fans who enjoy the new series, they’ll have a chance to enjoy it for another full year.

SyFy has given the green light to a second season of the latest entry in the popular franchise.

The network also signed off on a third season for “Sanctuary.”

Both series were given a 20 episode order for their new seasons.  New episodes will begin airing this fall.

“We’re dealing with 15 seasons of expectations with a certain fanbase,” executive producer Robert Cooper told the Hollywood Reporter. “Hopefully, as the show goes on, people will appreciate Universe for being its own thing.”

He also revealed a new alien race will be added to the show. “There is a big story point coming up that does introduce an alien race,” Cooper said. “It’s more along the line of a ‘District 9’-type alien. Our interaction is handled in a very ‘Universe’ way; they’re not the typical Stargate alien bad guys.”

Great news for both shows! Now that “FlashForward” and “V” will also go ahead, and of course with the “Caprica” premiere, 2010 isn’t looking so dull anymore.

SGU is one of the best shows on tv right now! I’m overjoyed at it’s renewal!

Yay! I’m loving Universe, so far it’s my favourite new genre show of the 09/10 season.

Not really all that pleased about either of these shows getting another season. SGU isn’t nearly as good as “SG-1” or “Atlantis”. And “Sanctuary” isn’t as good this season as it was last season.

But even as it is, “Sanctuary” is better than some shows out there. And SGU’s first season is only half over, so I’m crossing my fingers and hoping that when it comes back in the spring, it’ll be something that I won’t want to miss. But as it is right now, I wouldn’t really care if it’s fate were reversed and it got canceled. It just isn’t doing it for me.

Rumor has it, Brad Wright had a 2 year contract before the first episode aired. I guess they figured they ought to get something for it, and renew.

Did Sanctuary get better? This is going to sound really sad, but I never could get past Amanda’ Tapping’s fake English accent

Great news, love both shows! Also, IMO SGU is very good. Stargate was at it’s worst in seasons 9 & 10 of SG-1. Those seasons were abysmal.

This is good news for those of us who like SGU and I suppose bad news for those who don’t. I just wish those detractors didn’t have such short memories or they would give SGU a chance. It could just be me but I felt the first season of SG1 was it’s worst and thats not to say it sucked. However, it only really had maybe four or five solid episodes. Most good TV shows go through that uphill climb and I won’t bother to list them all because you know that already. SGU is already better than SG1 was in it’s first season. I say just give this show a chance because you don’t know what the future holds.

WOOT! for SGU. It feels so good to have a space exploration show again especially one as good as SGU. I don’t think anyone should be happy if a show is cancelled. The most they should be is indifferent. I wen’t to the SYFY forums to thank the network for doing something right with SGU and some of those people attacked me personally insinuating that I’m gullible, or that I choose flashy style over substance. Even when I make petty attacks I still try to direct them at the show, not the people watching them. I’m so used to civil disagreements on Farpoint forums and a few others that I was shocked. Actively campaigning for a show’s downfall is pathetic. Just don’t watch it if you hate it!

Is this a new strain of hateful geeks or have the farpoint moderators been protecting us all this time?

The idea that “SG-U” and “Sanctuary” are the best sci-fi shows out today is BAD news. They have weak competition and are far from being “GREAT” shows and could still use improvement.
I hope this improvement will happen soon and will still be watching them. But, “heroes” still will taint my outlook(what a waste}.
