JMS Talks About Silver Surfer Movie That Could Have Been

JMS Talks About Silver Surfer Movie That Could Have Been

November 25, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

Writer J. Michael Straczynski says that his script for a potential Silver Surfer movie is complete, but that development on the film has stalled.

The movie was supposed to follow production of “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” and build on the momentum from that film. However, when the second “Fantastic Four” entry didn’t set the box office on fire, the Silver Surfer project was sent into limbo.

Straczynski recently told MTV News details about the script, saying that it would not have been an origin story for the Surfer.

“What happened was when ‘FF2’ didn’t do as well as they hoped it would do, it caused them to call into question a ‘Silver Surfer’ movie,” noted Straczynski. “The script that I wrote picked up right where ‘FF2’ left off. So if they do a ‘Silver Surfer’ film down the road, it’ll have to be its own separate things.”

Straczynski added, “It was definitely adult fare. I wanted to tell the origin of the Surfer and get into that whole thing.”

Actor Doug Jones also revealed that he would be interested in returning to the role when and if the movie gets off the ground.

“There are still a couple of years left on their option for two more pictures with me, as a three-picture deal is quite standard when starting a franchise-potential character. But with all the ‘re-boot’ talk of the ‘Fantastic Four’, I have no idea where that leaves the Silver Surfer end of things. I would love to re-visit this character. I do love Norrin Radd,” said Jones.

Figures. The 2nd FF movie was a major improvement over the 1st one (and that’s in spite of Jessica Alba!), so naturally, it didn’t do as well. Frakking people.

The second was indeed better than the first but was still crap and not really worth watching overall.
