“V” Ratings Helped by DVR Numbers

“V” Ratings Helped by DVR Numbers

November 24, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

We’ve already brought you news that the series premiere of ABC’s “V” was a solid one ratings-wise.

It appears that the premiere did even better when the numbers for DVR viewing were factored into the equation.

The alien drama was the biggest gainer among all freshman series in its first week.

Based on Nielsen’s Live + 7 ratings that incorporate DVR viewing up to seven days after a show’s original airing, “V” added 2.4 million more viewers for a final audience of 16.7 million viewers and a 6.2 rating among adults 18-49.

The series will air its fall finale tonight and will return in March.

I can’t believe it’s already going on break. It feels like it just started.

I am hoping they replay the 4 hours periodically until it returns again. It would probably work well as a “mini series” played on a Saturday evening. They have to do something to build up for its return. It is hard to get the buzz going on the back half of a show that has already aired.

I can’t believe they are holding off for 4 months after only showing these first few episodes. I’m curious how they will keep the momentum going for the show until then.

Does anyone remember Season 3 of “Lost”? They kind of did the same thing then. They showed six episodes in a row, then took a three-month break before showing the rest of the season. I remember that a lot of people were mad about it. Apparently, ABC did not learn its lesson.
