It’s Up! Hands down the best animated movie of the year. 3-D or no.

Oh, and I think it should be “get” and not “go” an Oscar

For me it’s “UP” all the way.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved Up, but “9” was my favorite animated film of the year.

I think Up will win, and deservedly so.

But Coraline is very nearly as good, and I haven’t seen Fantastic Mr. Fox yet.
I wish Astro Boy would get more attention, as I thought it was excellent.
I hope Ponyo gets nominated, but it will be hurt by comparisons to other Miyazaki films which are deeper than Ponyo.

I have not seen many of the movies listed, so I’ll refrain from voting, but I will voice my opinion of Up. Definitely not one I would vote for. The movie did not know if it wanted to be a comedy or a drama, and it covered some heavy subjects.

The passing of a loved one seems far from what a younger audience would be interested in, and I know for a fact it negatively affected someone dealing with that very thing. Not what I would have expected from a Disney/Pixar film.

The humor was weak, the action minimal, and overall it does not stack up well to other Pixar offerings. Definitively darker, I wonder who their target audience was.

Of course that is my opinion, and others are certainly entitled to theirs, but I would be curious to know what people found so great about it.

UP rocked but Ponyo was absolutely incredible. May be it wasn’t as deep as some of Miyazaki’s other films but Ponyo touched the young and young at heart in a very direct way. My 4-y-o daughter was so involved in it that she wouldn’t cuddle up to me in the theatre even when I sat her on my knee.

Not having seen Fantastic Mr. Fox I have to go with Ponyo. UP is 2nd choice so far.
