Director Roland Emmerich is hoping his upcoming disaster movie “2012” wil leave viewers wanting more.
Emmerich says that he is currently in talks with ABC to create a spin-off series of the disaster movie that would follow the rebuilding of the planet after its destroyed in the upcoming film.
“The plan is that it is 2013 and it’s about what happens after the disaster,” Emmerich told EW. “It is about the resettling of Earth. That is very, very fascinating.”
Emmerich added that he thinks the show “will focus on a group of people who survived but not on the boats… maybe they were on a piece of land that was spared or one that became an island in the process of the crust moving.”
EW says that Gordon is rumored to be in talks with ABC for the disaster drama. Gordon said: “After the movie, there are some people who survive and the question is how will these survivors build a new world and what will it look like. That might make an interesting TV series.”

I look forward to seeing the movie 2012? this weekend. The CGI looked great. Maybe the story and acting won’t be up to par for everyone but the 6 bucks I’ll be paying for the matinee…. well… I think it will be well worth the price for the big special effects alone.

I watched the movie this weekend, and I have to say the special effects did not come close to making up for the bad plot, bad acting, and general badness overall.
Well, OK . . . some of the effects were interesting, and one of the extras did a good job acting, but this still ranks way up there in the JPB** category. Perhaps my opinion is tainted because I voted to watch it over watching episodes from Season 2 of The Big Bang Theory, thus losing major points in the game of marital bliss.
**Tired of being out of the acronym loop, I’m making up my own. JPB > Just Plain Bad.
