Is “Fringe” On The Bubble?

Is “Fringe” On The Bubble?

October 29, 2009 By Michael Hickerson 16 Comments

fringecastOne of our favorite series here at Slice of SciFi may be on the bubble according to TV Guide.

In its list of all series that may not make it a full season, TV Guide lists “Fringe.”

The site says, “It’s been consistently fourth in its extremely competitively timeslot (opposite Grey’s Anatomy, The Office and 30 Rock, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Supernatural), despite actually posting gains for Fox on Thursday nights over last season. But the relatively healthy Tuesday audience it used to have is shrinking.”

So, do we need to start a rally here on Slice of SciFi to contact Fox executives about “Fringe” and help ensure it gets a full season?

If you know of any campaigns to help the show, please let us know in the comments.

    Noooo… I must have my Fringe…. Grrrrr.

The problem is that Fox moved it to Thursday nights. They should have kept it on Tuesdays.

This might be a case of the show being a victim of it’s own success. It had such a strong finish to season 1 that the network thought it could put it up against the ‘big boys’ on Thursday but that was a stupid move. A move back to Tuesday would be a great idea.

Easy fix…move it back to Tuesday night where it belongs.

Exactly. Why did they try moving it to a night with long running shows like CSI and Greys Anatomy? Retards.

It’s like Fox is determined to make these shows fail-which makes no sense whatsoever.

Are TVGuide including DVR, Hulu and Fox website viewings? As for Friday nights, has genre show of any worth survived there? SC:TTC, Firefly, Moonlight, all the way back to Star Trek:TOS. Seems like SyFy is the only channel that can successfully air our shows on Friday Nights.

this is why we don’t watch regular tv anymore. wait for the dvd’s to come out. why deal with all the drama of just trying to watch something?

The problem with waiting for the DVD is that if people don’t watch it on TV it gets bad ratings and gets canceled. The networks need to see viewership to keep the show going. If we all waited for Chuck on DVD there might not have been a third season.

Well, if FOX ruins this show the way they did TSCC (terminator), I may never invest time in another FOX series again. I’ve had it with being strung along with great characters and story lines only to have the marketing monkeys shift shows into no win situations. Hey, here’s what we need, more retarded reality shows. Broadcast TV is in it’s death roll…..

I’m shocked to hear this. I thought FOX regarded this as one of their top shows, but I guess I was wrong.

They should have kept it on Tuesdays. I still can’t figure out why they moved it. It was fine right where it was.

I think we need a giant MOVE IT BACK TO TUESDAY! block letters over the Fox exec’s offices.

Well, part of the success it had last year on Tuesdays was the American Idol lead-in.

Also, Tuesday ain’t going to be kind to it this year. It would be up against CBS’s new ratings successes of the NCIS franchise.

That said, it would be less competitive over there on Tuesdays…but I’m not sure it’d help long term.

There is always a chance that this is just a ploy to get viewers back for sweeps. The timing of this announcement is a bit…. odd.
Oh well… if it works to get the show numbers I’m all for it. Go Watch Fringe People.!

It’s probably suffering from split viewership. The people who watch Supernatural are likely to be the same people who watch Fringe. Ok if you’ve got an HD Tivo to record everything, but that’s still not something everyone owns.

Thursday is like super genre night on TV now. They should space it out a little.

Nooo! Don’t be takin’ mah Bishops! D:

Fringe is just starting to get really fascinating. They can’t cancel it now.
