Echo Can Live On Your Desktop

Echo Can Live On Your Desktop

October 5, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

virtualecho2Fans of Joss Whedon’s “Dollhouse” can now download “Virtual Echo,” a desktop application where star Eliza Dushku’s character Echo entertains and interacts with the user.

Once you download and install the program, Echo will appear at random points on your desktop, strutting across your screen and performing different playful actions (shooting your monitor, dancing, etc). You can also use your web cam to grab an image of your room so it will look like Echo is right there with you.

The application also gives you the latest news on the show and allows you to share that with your friends.

The program also includes:

— Desktop Echo, which turns any computer screen into Echo’s playground. Watch Echo walk onto your desktop as she switches between her different personas, including dream date, hostage negotiator and assassin. Fans may leave the application running to be surprised as Echo displays her many special talents.

— Augmented Reality Echo, which allows users to expand the Echo experience using augmented-reality (AR) technology. Simply print out the AR card with the special DOLLHOUSE symbol or “glyph,” aim it at the computer’s webcam and bring Echo to life by moving the card. Then use the arrow keys to choose between her different avatars.

You can download the program HERE.

It doesn’t really help Dollhouse that the other programs first to do this sort of thing were desktop stripper toys.

    Oh yay. Spyware.

I like Dollhouse, but if I’m on my computer, I don’t need Echo popping up to get in the way of whatever I’m trying to do.
