Barrowman Choice of Fans for Captain America

September 29, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 14 Comments

MTV asked and the readers have spoken.

They want John Barrowman, best known as Captain Jack Harkness, to take up the shield in the upcoming big-screen version of “Captain America.”

Barrowman beat out “True Blood” actor Alexander Skarsgard in the poll, garnering 36 percent of the votes cast, according to MTV’s Splash Page.

Other contenders included Jensen Ackles and “Mad Men” Jon Hamm for the role.

And while these results show the fan’s interest in who they want to play Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, they are in no way any official casting news for the pivotal role.

HA! I’ve been saying this for a year now! Sweet vinidcation. 🙂

Frankly I want to see it happen if for no other reason than to make Bill O’Reilly’s head explode. 😉

I’m all for Barrowman, but the idea of Ackles didn’t even occur to me before now, and now that it has, I think it’s awesome. Dammit, I’m torn!

    Barrowman??? Of COURSE!

Oh, and Arkle? LOL, dude!! Come to think of it, it would make quite a few heads explode simply because he’s not “technically American”. Just raised in the U.S. for a while. As if you had to be “American” to PLAY “Capt. America”.

So, a gay Brit to play Captain America?

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Actually, he would be a great choice.

@alibertarian: He’s bi and he’s an swashbuckling American, not a Brit.

Life is full of little ironies like that…..but, Barrowman is officially a Scottish-born British American….so technically, he fits the bill on that account. As far as being a gay Captain America….hey, he is a gay Captain Jack and if that’s OK with the Doctor then why would being Captain America be a problem?

Ya need muscles to be Cap…I vote for WWE Wrestler John Cena as Captain America…and no, Cap isn’t gay, he’s been in too many relationships with hot babes. Guys (and Gals), read up your Comics!

the only choice is Jensen Ackles. he is a talented actor with the right look. I can’t think of anyone I would rather see in this role. They would be foolish to cast anyone else.

Robert: Gay actors play straight characters all the time and vice versa. Also, Cap was strong, but he was never a dumb jock. Cast John Cena as Cap and that’s what you’ll get; a dumb jock. And we have enough of those in movies already thank you very much.

I think Summer Glau would make a great Cap. She is tough in the Terminator series and we now she can kick but. The fact that she is female would be a very effective reboot of the series and I would like to point out that women have been in the military and captains for years.

Sista Soul-Jah, LOL, you’re a funny one. SRSLY, Ackles is a perfect choice. He fits all the requirments
    -Tall, 6′ 1″
    -American
    -Right age
    -Very good actor
    -Commending voice
though he needs to hit the gym.

I would love John Barrowman to make it to the big screen in any capcity but unfornately Marvel is going to want a big name. Granted, JB is well known and respected in certain circles but his isn’t a name that is common like Robert Downy Jr or Ed Norton. I think this great actor will be a victum of not being on the a-list of hollywood. But what the hell, I’m hoping it works out because he really is a lot of fun to watch.
