ABC Splits Run of “V”

ABC Splits Run of “V”

September 27, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 7 Comments

Don’t get too used to watching “V” on Tuesdays when it debuts November 3.  ABC has decided to split the season for the fledgling series and will only air the first four episode of the show in 2009.

The remaining episodes will then air in the spring of 2010, probably in March according to the Hollywood Reporter.

ABC has ordered 13 episodes of the re-imagining of the iconic series from the 1980’s.

The series has experienced behind-the-scenes turmoil, leading to a shut down of the series in August.  Rumors abounded that the series would be retooled as a mini-series.  Production studio Warner Brothers has denied the reports.

Currently, the series has only two completed episodes but it scheduled to resume production on October 4.

“V” will air on ABC on Tuesday, November 3.

So they give it just enough time to build a following and then put it on hiatus… That’s a huge amount of support their giving this show.

Nice! The kiss of death before it even starts. Why not just hold all of it until March so it can keep its momentum? WTF is with those half-wits at ABC? Why won’t they give a sci-fi series a chance to win over viewers?

And here we go again… another series that could be good and might even build moment if the networks would cut out the “half-season” crap becoming so vogue today.

Can you expect anything less from a Disney Droid? This is absolutley ridiculous. Save it for after the Holidays. I know that you will here that the last month of November & a lot of December have the lowest viewing audience due to the holidays but why split it? ABC and the rest of them suck at giving us shows. We are put into a hard spot, I want to see it succeed and I want to watch it but who wants to see 4 shows then wait several months. SCI-FI channel is the same way with only 13 episodes, you just get into really enjoying it again and POOF it is off the air for another year and they fill it with crap!!!

If the first episode was anything to go by, this incarnation of V is going to be nothing short of lame.

I really liked the original, and this is nothing like it, nor is it an even slightly worthy ‘reimagining’ as was BSG. I found the initial episode rushed, trying to cram the whole driving force of the original miniseries into 1 45 min story.

I know the original had longer episodes, but this was way too fast.

There was no time to get used to any of the characters before it is revealed that 2 of them are lizardy aliens.. Big deal, so what? They should have used the first few episodes to build up some kind of viewer tension, hinted at the aliens maybe being bad, then gradually revealing more.

As it is, when the episode finished, I had no “yay, go resistance” feelings, just apathy..

Also, the thing that REALLY bugged me was the “V’s” references, just some cutesy nickname. If anyone had watched the original, V wasn’t for Visitor, it was for Victory..

All in all, sadly unimpressed.. I can easily see ratings drop off, and probably won’t return in 2010.
