Depp Loses Interest in “Pirates 4”

Depp Loses Interest in “Pirates 4”

September 21, 2009 By Michael Hickerson 7 Comments

Actor Johnny Depp has lost some of his enthusiasm to reprise his Oscar-nominated roles as Captain Jack Sparrow in the upcoming “Pirates of the Caribbean 4” according to 411Mania.

Part of that may be the recent departure of Disney executive and long-time chairman Dick Cook. Cook departed Friday, according to reports.

Cook and Depp were friends and when Disney was initially reticent about Depp’s take on Sparrow in the first movie, Cook stepped up to defend him. Depp’s work won over critics and audiences, catapulting the original to huge box-office success.

Now with Cook gone, Depp says his enthusiasm for the upcoming fourth installment has diminished.

Depp added that while he has a deal in place for the next Pirates flick, it will depend heavily on the script now because his enthusiasm has dropped due to the Cook situation.

“There’s a fissure, a crack in my enthusiasm at the moment. It was all born in (Cook’s) office.”

Johnny Depp is my hero for stepping away. Finally, someone with enough sense to know when to say “Enough.!”

See, Arkle? I told you so. 😉

And we’ve seen what happens when Captain Jack finds the Fountain of Youth. He becomes the Face of Boe.

I have to agree that we don’t need a pirates four. PC2 was kinda dodgy and and PC3 was quite lame with the Goddess of the Sea storyline.
Don’t get me wrong I thought the trilogy was funny, but the plot lacked substance and I think its time to deep six it and look for some new material.
