Reports of the demise of “Defying Gravity” appear to be greatly exaggerated.
Several news outlets (including Slice of SciFi) reported yesterday that ABC had canceled the series. That appears to not be the case.
The series is produced internationally and was picked up for U.S. broadcast on ABC. The alphabet network began the show late in the summer season and logistically would not have been able to show all 13 episodes before the return of the regular fall season.
New episodes are still in production and could be shown on ABC at some point in the future. A network spokesperson said the network is mulling over its options now.
Whether this means U.S. fans will get to see the final five episodes of the year on ABC is still up in the air. It also doesn’t rule out that the series could be purchased by another network or cable outlet to air the remaining episodes and possible future seasons.

If ABC passes on Defying Gravity then Syfy could buy the series

I don’t think Syfy will buy it, I don’t think they have the money. They’re spending money on SGU, Caprica, Eureka, and various Mini-Series. I don’t think they can afford more since the reason they canceled SG-1 and SGA was to save costs for their other projects.

I agree, this series is too expensive for Syfy. It sounds to me as if ABC is just trying to spin the cancellation. Now they can massively delay the final 5 episodes then claim low viewership when they finally air them and not renew the series. I can’t believe this network would let go of great shows like Defying Gravity and Pushing Daisies.

Is this show any good.. One of the dudes on Slice of SciFi podcast says it is but I watch the first three episodes and it was kinda ho hum. Not much action. Should I keep watching. Thanks!

I LOVED Gravity, and from what I’ve heard the next episode is a big reveal and is worth waiting for. That is, if ABC brings it back.

It would be a joint venture with Canada so it wouldn’t be like skiffy was funding it alone. I doubt they pick it up because they seem to have their lineup set, but should one of their shows fail it would still be out there to pick up.
