In a busy weekend at the box-office, “The Final Destination” took the top spot in ticket sales this weekend with $28.3 million, according to studio estimates from box office trackers Nielsen EDI.
The movie is the fourth installment in the series and was shown in digital 3-D in a number of theaters across the nation.
Meanwhile, last week’s number one movie dropped to number two. “Inglorious Basterds” dropped 47% from its debut to do $20 million in box-office business.
In third was another horror franchise opening, the new Rob Zombie “Halloween II.” The latest Mike Myers saga took in $17.4 million.
“District 9” continued to perform well, taking in just over $10 million for fourth place. The final film in the top five was “G.I. Joe” with $8 million.
