The global economic downturn is affect everyone–even Hollywood. And it may lead to a delay in the highly-anticipated Green Lantern movie.
According to Production Weekly, the film may be delayed due to the financial climate in Australia. The film is due to film in Australia.
“[‘Green Lantern’s’] proposed Australian shoot is understood to be under threat after the rising Australian dollar has blown out production costs,” reports Production Weekly’s Twitter feed.
The problem for Warner Brothers and DC is the decision over whether or not to move the production of the film. That could end up adding to the price tag for “Lantern,” which is a film that will already have a hefty price tag.
A shift in where the film is produced could lead to another delay in the release of the film. It also could create a scheduling conflict for actor Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds has been cast in both Lantern and the upcoming Deadpool movie. If Lantern is delayed, that could lead to Reynolds having to drop out of one of the two roles.

If it comes down to it, I hope he drops Lantern, cause dang it I want a Deadpool movie. complete with ax crazy one-liners and total shattering of the fourth wall.
Dave in NY says
I concur with Arkle. I’d rather see Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool over Green Lantern if he cannot do both.
Lejon from Chandler says
Let’s see, to get around the costs of California unions, you move the production to where the economy is weak, thus leveraging bang-for-buck, but when your buck is worth less than than the place you moved to, you’re screwed… Hrm… Tough choice. Maybe they should shoot in a place where the economy has gotten really weak, like I don’t know, The United States?
