Now that we know when “V” will air, fans are now starting to wonder if and how the new series will pay homage to the classic original mini-series.
Specifically, you may be wondering if they’ll pay homage to one of the iconic moments from the original–the alien’s leader Diana swallowing a hampster.
Series producer Scott Peters says that is just one of many iconic moments from the original that he and the other producers have talked about in working on the updated series.
“Whenever we would audition actors or bring writers in to … interviews, … we would ask, ‘What do you remember of the show? What’s like the big [thing]?’ And the big things were the huge ships, the red uniforms, … eating the hamster and [the] alien baby. You know, universally, that was what everyone came up with. It was like our top four or five. So definitely, we are well aware of those moments and looking to put our own little spin on them to tip our hat to the old audience,” Peters told SciFi Wire.
Peter also said that the series would feature a moment that paid homage to the classic reveal of the real nature of the Visitors.
“We tried to put our own [spin on it],” Peters said, referring to the scene of one of the Visitor’s faces being ripped away to reveal a lizard -like face underneath. “We’re … a little bit different than their execution of it. It wasn’t so much latex mask as it is real flesh and blood.”
And the homages to the classic show won’t just stop there. Peters said the new series is carefully weighing if and how cameos by the original cast might play into the new series.
“Jane Badler has approached our producers and has been in touch here and there,” Peters said.
Badler is one of the original cast members whom the producers are considering putting in the new show as an homage and tip of the hat, Peters said. “And I haven’t had a chance to actually sit down or talk to anybody face to face, but I would love to,” Peters said about the original stars, who include Marc Singer and Faye Grant. “And as we move forward in the writers’ room, … we’re just getting up on our … feet. We start shooting Monday [Aug. 10], and so once we sort of get that first one under our belts, I think we’ll be able to take a bit of a sigh of relief and really sort of look a little bit more broad stroke, a little bit more big picture. … I don’t want somebody to just walk by in the background and then feature them for a second. … I want to find a really interesting role for somebody.”
“V” debuts on ABC in November.

It would be cool to see Richard Herd in a cameo. He starred as the leader the V contingent that landed on Earth. He also starred as Admiral Owen Paris on Star Trek Voyager.

I really hope that they dont redo the scene where the ships were first coming down and there was a grade school band playing the theme to Star Wars. I always thought that was corny, even when I watched it for the 1st time when it was originally aired.

I think the hamster thing was stupid. The miniseries had great ideas, but the series itself was cheesy. I hope they go more in a BSG direction. I would hate to see the hamsters again…ugh.

Michael Ironside is a MUST!! Don’t care if he is a hamster muncher or not!
