Beckinsale Film Crosses Genres

Beckinsale Film Crosses Genres

August 6, 2009 By Sam Sloan 1 Comment

Everybody’s favorite vampire girl Kate Beckinsale (“Underworld”) is set to star in the new anticipated film titled “Whiteout”.

Based on the very popular series of graphic novels by author Greg Rucka, the Dominic Sena (“Swordfish,” “Gone in Sixty Seconds”) directed movie crosses several genres. Is it a drama, a thriller, a cop-film, suspense or a horror outing? It appears that it falls into that “all-the-above” category. The only question left for viewers after the film debuts this September is will it successfully conquer all those disciplines adequately enough to please most afficienados?

“Whiteout” has Beckinsale playing U.S. Marshall Carie Stetko hot on the trail of a killer that tried to claim her as a victim. The interesting aspect of the film is its location — the Antartica.

Marshall Stetko is investigating several murders that have taken place and must catch the killer before the Antartic winter sets in that will blanket the area with six months of darkness and death-dealing cold (ala “30 Days of Night”). Having already lost two fingers to this maniac, Stetko isn’t about to repeat past mistakes in her desire to capture the murderer and meet the possiblitity of being trapped with him/her during that dangerous time.

“Whiteout” premieres in theaters on September 11, 2009.

Thanks for the information on Whiteout. This is the first that I’ve heard of this movie. Sounds as if it will be another hit for Kate Beckinsale.
