Barrowman Leaving “Torchwood”?

August 3, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 13 Comments

Could actor John Barrowman be saying good bye to Captain Jack Harkness?

That could be the case.  Barrowman is reportedly talking to producers of “Desparate Housewives” about a role on the upcoming season on ABC’s hit series.

Barrowman confirmed the report on the BBC Radio 1 last week, saying, “I’m off to Los Angeles on Sunday again. I probably shouldn’t say this but I’ve got a meeting with the execs of ‘Desperate Housewives.'”

“Can you believe it – I’m going to be a Desperate Housewife!” he added.

No word yet on Barrowman’s casting on the show or what kind of role it would be. If it were a regular part, this could throw a wrench into the fourth series of “Torchwood.”

Personally, I dont see how there could be a 4th season of Torchwood anyway. Most of the cast is gone, and at the end of TW:COE, Captain Jack left Earth.

Sorry, accidentally hit the submit button (stupid touchpad).

Even if the producers did replace the deceased members, it would be too different.

All I can say is: If Barrowman is joining the cast of Desperate…even if he IS a Housewife? I’m SO there.
    I’m just sayin’…

Worry not, the BBC have already greenlit the 4th season of Torchwood. I’m sure JB will be starring again. The mini-series season 3 took 8 weeks to film so another stint needn’t conflict.

He talked more about this. He’s only doing a guest spot in one episode. He’s not joining the cast.

Besides, have we seen his credits list? He’s on every program in the UK and Canada, but still finds time for Torchwood and Doctor Who.

Does anyone else think it might just be for a couple of episodes? Actors to short stints on shows all the time.

While I agree that the end of COE did seem somewhat final, it’s not impossible for Jack to come back.

4th Season? Why are they bothering. Seriously, when you go through the effort they went through to end Torchwood so completely, why turn around and shoehorn another plot line out of it?

A lot of shows would have killed to get a proper ending. Torchwood had it, and now they’re tossing it away?

    Not looking forward to this.

Magess, it wasn’t an “ending” though. Each season has been on a different network, and each time they’ve had to start over. (in the UK, that is) They could only get a commitment for five episodes on its now-third network. They wrote it as a miniseries, and aired as such. There are plenty of ways they could bring it back for a fourth season.

As written and aired, though, it could go both ways. If there was no fourth season, it was a satisfying conclusion. Since there is a fourth season, now we get to figure out how the heck they can pull it off.

Aw, man. First Nathan Fillion, now John Barrowman. Why must DH keep snagging my sci-fi guys? I just can’t bring myself to watch that show, even for them. :-\

As I said in the comments for the COE poll, it would take a lot to lure me back to Torchwood at this point. It’s still too raw and painful for me, and all of my favorite characters are gone. (Well, except Andy. Still love Andy, but he’s not a series regular.)

Just thinking back to the end of the last series of Dr Who, (not the specials but the full series), there are definately hints that either Micky or Martha might be lined up to join the Torchwood team, so thats a possible option for them if those actors are free.

Robin: I get the distinct impression that come series 4 we’ll be seeing more of PC Andy. 🙂
