The best Torchwood so far. Can’t wait for series 4

Torchwood was awesome. I doubt even BSG had 5 better “back to back” nights than this.

So was that it? Is the series over?

It ripped my heart out of my chest, quite the accomplishment for a TV show. A+

Some of the best sci-fi television one will ever witness.

I didn’t see it yet but my DVR did.
I’ll see it once I get some free time.

Should have called it “Davies single handedly kills off Torchwood!” I gave it a D+. The killing of the boy was totally unnecessary! The 456 did not use all the children to kill Clem, and his grandson need only be used as a hub to transfer the message to all the other children of earth. Dumb, dumb dumb. Now I have NO reason to go back and watch seasons 1 & 2 nor to expect a season 4 (this was their season 3 and obviously a finale).

I totally disagree with reppoHssarg. I thought that the witting was really outstanding. And while their were plot holes go to around, the power of some of the things in the show were just great. One of the real standouts was where the politicians were sitting around talking about “which” children were going to be picked. Very scary stuff because I could see people really doing this.

FYI – word from SD comic con is that Torchwood has been picked up for another season.

I thought it was great. Especially when Jack had to off his grandchild. It’s too bad American TV can’t take risk like that and instead they cancell all the good shows like TTSCC, The Unit, Life, Stargate… I could go on and on with all the quality shows that get canceled.

I gave it a ‘B’. The first three and a half episodes were wonderful, and then a lot of stupidity happened. The writing of the ending felt rushed and sloppy. After reading reviews on a few sites, I have to agree that Davies was aspiring to Whedon-level greatness and missed the mark. Killing both Ianto and Stephen was unnecessary.

The one sort-of-redeeming part of the ending was that it confirmed a theory I’ve had since season 2. When I learned that the Zombie!Owen storyline was originally conceived for Ianto, I told a fellow fan that I didn’t think Jack would stay with Torchwood if Ianto died. At least I was right about that. Small consolation though. :-\

I gave it an F: The entire premise is beyond ridiculous, together with this entire Torchwood folk. Either they are retarded, together with the government (which is always the case anyway), police etc etc. OR, I simply didnt understand their significance, depth of thought process, their actions, etc. The captain;s motivational speech on greatness of human race in part4 was not only ridiculous, it was a mixture of funny primitivism with the gibberish of a brain damaged teenager. This is the first time i watch Torchwood, following all the hype, and I am quite disappointed. I agree with reppoHssarg, the entire mini series is simply dumb, with dumb idea and shallow dialogs.
    Skip.

In all fairness reppoHssarg & Pantagruel were probably expecting something more hard hitting like ST:TNG or Farscape. Brit TV typically takes far more risks than their american counterparts. This was wonderful and terrible together.

To Michel Daw’s comment I add that I have been a L o n g time fan of Dr Who, from the brown hair flute player, the golden haired unit mucker and through the great tales headed by Tom Baker. I was very happy to see the revival of Dr Who as well. However I do prefer unique British Sci Fi as The Prisoner and Blake’s 7 and the hysterical Red Dwarf, brought to us in CA, SF Bay area through courtesy of KTEH public television. Yes my expectations were high, yet that does not excuse the plot holes or the simply dumb, dumb dumb storyline and thus my D+ rating of the mini-series. Great Photography and acting, by the way, however they were all limited by the script.

Love it or hate it, it got the numbers neccessary. Though not official yet, word from good sources say its a go for Series 4 of Torchwood.

It was really an amazing show. I enjoy the changes that shake up the status quo. The redding herrings, while frustrating are rewarding. I thought the part with Jack using his grandson, was foreshadowed too heavily. I get the idea that Jack can live forever. Did I have to be reminded almost every episode?

All in all well worth the watching time.

I have bought all the dvds for Dr Who and Torchwood – I won’t be buying this one – like others I thought killing his grandson was unnecessary and against Jack’s habit of doing everything to save someone – look what he risked to save Stephen’s grandmother from the faeries. The conversation with politicians discussing who should die was far more scary than anything else, probably because of the possibility of truth, but seeing the needless callous way they had Jack destroy his daughter and her son has totally put me off the series. To lose both David Tennant and John Barrowman – big sigh !
