Say Hello to the New Doctor in the House

Say Hello to the New Doctor in the House

July 21, 2009 By Sam Sloan 20 Comments

Here is a first glimpse at what the new Doctor Who (26 year-old Matt Smith) will look like in full regalia – clothing and that famous police box – the TARDIS.

Also pictured with Matt Smith is Karen Gillan, the new girl in the Doctor’s life. Gillan was chosen by Steven Moffat as the Doctor’s new companion after he rejuvenates in 2010 from the current Tennant incarnation of the famous Time Lord.

With a hunk like Smith now the Time Lord and the never-dying Captain Jack rumored to be joining him for some future episodes, I can see the googly love-sparks flying between Captain Jack and the Doctor already….well, at least from Jack’s eyes anyway.

Hmm… interesting costume choice. It’s a bit Bill Nye-ish to me, but maybe that’s just the bow tie. (Not necessarily a bad thing. I like Bill Nye.) I suppose in some ways it harkens back to Troughton’s look.

This will take a little getting used to. It has elements of the Hartnell era, but it’s like they took the suit from Ian (tie not withstanding). It’s kind of a drab bookish look. I can buy that if the Doctor’s personality sells it.

    Agree with Lejon.

    Also,
    I think it’s adorable.

Are we going to see a redesigned TARDIS interior for the new Doctor? Maybe a new desktop setting?

Gonna have to get used to the Younglings. I love the suit. Makes him look all Doctorish to me. If he’d been dressed like…likea …Jonas Brother or something, it would have put me off.
BTW, I adore Bill Nye and part of it is that he makes that bow tie thing look cool.
And Captain Jack? I wonder if he’ll think this new incarnation is a little bit on the young side, as well. (Looks-wize. Not age-wise.) I mean, Ianto’s older than this new guy.
The new Companion? Meh. Looks like they’re going back to the “Rose” model to me.
Seeing as how they had the requisite Blonde and then went to Martha and then an actual WOMAN with Donna, I would have liked to see them take another dip into the British diversity pool and maybe go with an Asian girl this time.
    But that’s me.
Anyway, I trust Davies and company to put me at ease.
    : )

Glad to see them back. Guess that means I can break out my old bow ties and suspenders from the storage box in the basement. 😉

The Doctor seems to get younger with each incarnation. The original Doctor was a real old fart. Each new version doesn’t seem to last long. Pretty soon, he’s going to regenerate into a toddler.

He does look a little young, but at least he looks like a scientist. The 9th Doctor didn’t look like anything of the sort.

Sorry to be so negative but he just looks wrong to me. Way too young. Looks like a public school boy. How is anybody going to take him seriously. I do have faith in Steven Moffatt though so this guy must be a fantastic actor. Will wait and see but not too hopeful.

I love the outfit. It’s like the garb that Indiana Jones wore whenever he was back at the university. It suits the Doctor, and better still, it suits the actor.
Also, the new companion? *Gorgeous*. Cute as a button. Trumps the companions from Davies’ era easily.

How about that new look TARDIS as well? White window frames and a slightly different light at the top. possibly a slightly lighter shade of blue as well? Or am I looking too hard!?
it actually looks kinda retro, I’m sure one of the older styles had the white window frames… cant think which Doctor it was though.
Im not concerened by any of the changes, I’ve been wary of some of the casting etc in the past and I’ve been consistenty proven wrong! This show just keeps getting better and better.
I still hate losing Tennant though. 🙁

Has anyone else noticed the St Johns amulance badge on the door of the TARDIS, this harks back to the Hartnell days & also the old movies with Peter Cushion. Do you think this is a retro look Moffatt is going for or could the next series be some sort of prequel series

    any ideas?

Why is he dressed like Poindexter? Doctor Who is the smartest man in the universe, not the geekiest. I hope the cloths do not reflect the character of the new Doctor Who. I see good ideals for Sci-Fi are in decline now days.
