Fans may want to consider putting the upcoming release of “Watchmen” in their Netflix queue and waiting until December for the “Ultimate Edition” to hit stores.
According to early reviewers, an insert with the “Director’s Cut” of the film indicates a third cut of the film will make its way to stores in December. Billed as “The Ultimate Editition,” this five-disc set will incorporate the animted footage created for the “Tales of the Black Trader” release.
The flier also reveals there will be a new commentary track from director Zack Snyder and Dave Gibbons, 2+ hours of bonus content including Hollis Mason’s Tell All “Under the Hood,” and the complete Watchmen Motion Comics.
If you do take the plunge on the upcoming “Director’s Cut” you will, at least, get ten dollars off the new release.
Multiple releases of a film are nothing new. But three versions of the same film in one calendar year may be some kind of new record….

Yeah, wondered it this was going to happen. Got an e-mail a few weeks ago about the soon-to-be-released DVDs/Blu-Ray, with no mention of this. I can wait until Christmas. Thanks for the heads up!
On the flip side, I’d have been pissed if I’d picked this up and found a coupon in it for a whole whopping $10 off! I’ll give WB props for the Red 2 Blu campaign, but this sucks.

Not to mention, the U.S. / Canada seem to be the only places getting the Director’s cut DVD. Everywhere else is getting the Cinema release.
