Campbell Opts Out of “Scream”

Campbell Opts Out of “Scream”

June 23, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

Actress Neve Campbell was invited to be part of the upcoming proposed “Scream” reboot/relaunch.  The actress has declined the invitation.

“Trying to figure out a Sid-less scenario. She won’t do it. This sucks,” writer Kevin Williamson Twittered over the weekend.

Details of the upcoming movie are being kept under wraps, but as we reported on Slice of SciFi a few weeks ago, Williamson was eager to reassemble as much of the original cast that survived the first trilogy as possible.   He also wanted to get director Wes Craven back behind the camera.

So far, Craven and Courtney Cox-Arquette and David Arquette are said to be interested in returning.

Campbell bowing out isn’t the kiss of death for the return to “Scream,” but it will certainly hurt. More than any of us know, apparently…

Replying to a post on PopWrap, Williamson revealed that Campbell’s non-involvement strikes a fairly major blow to his plans. “I ain’t got no Sid-less scenario,” he said. “I don’t know yet what to do.”

It seems only natural that Williamson should now write Campbell’s character out of the new story, but that is also not an option he’s ready to consider. “It was no cameo. I’d never play Sid out that way.”

How could Neve returning to Scream be a bad thing for her career? It’s not like her phone has been ringing off the hook lately.

Actually, she’s had quite a few independent films.

Smart move on her part. Giving in to mediocrity never helps move you forward. I get the paycheck thing, but she is better than this film.

Well she’s been saying for years that she wouldn’t do another Scream movie, why are they so shocked by this ?
