“Torchwood: Children of Earth” British Airdates Announced

June 19, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 6 Comments

The BBC has confirmed that the U.K. will get to see the upcoming third season of “Torchwood” before the rest of the world.

The BBC will debut the series on July 6 and run it through July 10 . The third season jumps the pond on July 20th and will be shown on BBC America.

Previous reports indicated that the BBC was considering showing the five-part mini-series in both the U.S. and the U.K. on the same day.

Not “considering”. They said they were going to. Going back on that at the eleventh hour is a really unwise move, in my opinion. The whole point of running the episodes pretty much concurrently was to avoid the internet pirating that’s been happening with the Doctor Who specials. For a lot of fans even just two weeks might be too long to wait. At the moment, I can’t say that I won’t be one of them.

I’m ok with waiting. Of course, knowing that the whole thing is coming to dvd just a few days later (July 28th) helps.

I find it ironic that Americans are complaining about not having simulcasts. Most American shows don’t come to the UK until months, sometimes a year, after their US release. Sometimes a series has debuted run for a season or two and then been canceled before it gets show in in the UK.

“They said they were going to.”

The BBC didn’t say they were going to, BBC America – which is part of BBC Worldwide, not the BBC – said they were.

And I completely agree with Reader: fantastic US shows such as The Wire are broadcast over here years after they’re broadcast in the US, but we don’t complain.

well I’ll be scouring the internet on the 11th for that episode… yes i am one of those fans. but really, why not release it over here at the sane time? I’ve been waiting just as long as they have. and i don’t feel i should wait longer just cause I’m on the wrong side of the pond

Those that download are not just in the US I seen the reports and there are many other place that torrent the eps.. I get my eps from itune cheaper than store box sets($26 vs $99) and clean and easy to store on a good hard drive. I do not torrent it just too easy to shop for the show on legal media. Plus now ads or cut. I do watch the show on the TV but I hate the cutting BBA and SciFi Channel does for time not for content . I will admit a peek on you-tube for the Doctor eps once or twice. It s better to wait get all in one shot.
