With the success of the direct-to-DVD installments of “Futurama” could a new season be on the horizon?
According to Collider, Comedy Central has given the green light for a new, thirteen episode season for the animated series. While nothing official has been announced, Collider reports the animation studios for “Futurama” have opened and work has begun on the new season.
“Futurama” ran several seasons on FOX before being canceled by the network. The series delivered solid ratings in repeats first on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim and then on Comedy Central. A series of four direct-to-DVD movies were commissioned and sold well. Each movie was shown on Comedy Central and can be broken up into single episodes for syndication.
This means the upcoming season would be the sixth one produced for the series and the seventh one shown overall.
