Hemsworth Will Be Thor

Hemsworth Will Be Thor

May 18, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 7 Comments

The man who played George Kirk in the latest “Star Trek” installment has been tapped to play Thor in the upcoming Kenneth Branaugh-directed big-screen comic-book feature.

Chris Hemsworth has won the title role as the Norse god, according to Deadline Hollywood.  Hemsworth won the the approval of Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige for the role.

The Australian-born Hemsworth has a full plate in the coming months.  Besides “Thor,” the actor is starring in Joss Whedon’s “Cabin in the Woods” and will then take the lead role in the “Red Dawn” remake.

    this is crap.

they should use a big giant Norseman to play Thor, like someone from the thirteenth warrior.

It’s a prejudice, I know, and he was badass in “Star Trek”, but I still think there’s something wrong with the Norse God of Thunder/James T. Kirk’s dad originally hailing from Summer Bay. Aussies, back me up on this, please!

Playing Kirk’s father and being killed in the first re-imaged film did have its payoff for Hemsworth. I think he will make an excellent Thor, although Kevin McKidd would have been my pick. Congrats to Chris though. I think he will do a great job weilding the hammer.

    Nooooooooooooo !

This guy is a no talent hack that made his fellow wooden cast members in one of the crappiest Australian soap operas ever look good, seriously he’d better hit the gym and get some acting lessons under his belt if there is any hope at all of him being halfway decent as Thor.

Perhaps I shouldn’ t be down on a fellow Australian that seems to be doing well in Hollywood but they really should’ve gone with a proper actor, I’m dreading a weedy looking Thor with a rubbish Norse / Australian accent.

    Bronzethumb, correct.
George Kirk spent time in Summer Bay.

When I think of a Norse God I picture someoen form Scadanvia like Alexander Skarsgard.

And they’re remaking ‘Red Dawn’! How is the story going to go, a Zombie Soviet Union raises again to eat the brains of the West?

As usual, the haters arrive early and bring their pitchforks. Hemsworth has the size to play Thor because you want thor to be big but not massive, he has to be relatable to the audience. You want a handsome man, preferably blonde, with the right look. Its a comic book movie for crying outloud…if you want great acting go see a play or an Indie flick!

Now as for Red Dawn. It’s a classic, and if you take two seconds to re-imagine the movie for the modern age, its easy to make the enemy the Chinese or North Korea. The concept of a modern ground war on american soil makes for a great plot, no matter the age. Whats up with the automatic hatred people?
