Russo Rating: 9 out of 10
A must own high definition release.
Some people might argue that The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is David Fincher’s masterwork. I say Fight Club still holds that title. Heck, even Seven is a better movie. That being said though, that doesn’t mean that this story of a man that ages backwards is a cinematic slouch.
Now available on Criterion Collection DVD and BluRay, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button dazzles on the home screen. With its outstanding Academy Award winning visual effects and make-up, gloriously brilliant cinematography and a loving attention to detail from Fincher, there is no doubt about the fact that Benjamin Button is a must own high definition release.
Even with its overarching flaw, the familiarity of the story to one of screenwriter Eric Roth’s previous achievements (were looking at you Forest), Button works even better outside the theater with the added addition of a stop and start button to ease bathroom breaks that may occur over it’s length three hour running time. The DVD and BluRay set come with an outstanding transfer, as well as a plethora of immersive special features, that should make any David Fincher enthusiast approve. Easily an early contender for best BluRay disc of the year!
