“CSI” Visits SciFi Con in Tonight’s Episode

April 16, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 14 Comments

Tonight’s episode of “CSI” on CBS will find a murder taking place at a science-fiction convention.  The episode will feature a guest-appearances by Kate Vernon, best known as Ellen Tigh on “Battlestar Galactica” and Ron Moore. The episode is written by “BSG” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” veterans, David Weddle and Bradley Thompson.

The episode is called “A Space Oddity” and the press release of CBS says, “When Hodges and Wendy run into each other at a science fiction convention for one of their favorite classic television shows, they end up investigating the murder of one of their beloved actors.”

Based on the preview, it looks like there will be a lot of homages to “Star Trek.”  (It also sounds a lot like Sharon McCrumb’s mystery novel, “Bimbos of the Death Sun” which if you haven’t read it yet, you should…)

You can check out the preview below:

“CSI” airs tonight at 9 p.m. EST on CBS.

This is not CSI’s first trip into the realm of fandom. In the comic book mini called Dying in the Gutters, Grissom witnesses a murder at a Comic Book convention. Among the suspects are Joe Quesada, and among the people Gil and Brass talk to are Peter David and JMS.

Not news, I know. The producers and directors of the CSI franchise are Sci-Fi hard core folk. Last year CSI NY had an episode that was a love letter to Doctor Who. And the fact that Liz Vassey had a brief appearnce in ST:TNG doesn’t hurt either.

My favourite part? The dead guyj was making a re-imagining of a classic TV show, and turned it into a gritty, dark show. After the screening, audience membre Ron Moore shouts “You suck!” Hilariously meta 🙂

My favorite line from last night’s show — “He’s dead Jim!”

I’d swear that in the scene in which they unveiled the dark spin on the show that Boomer was in the crowd too.

Did I see Grace Park in the crowd that was so shocked at the serious remake of “Star Quest?” ’cause that would be frakking witty.
