“Starlog” Ceasing Print Publication

“Starlog” Ceasing Print Publication

April 14, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

After over 30 years of publication, “Starlog” will be ceasing print publication according to SciFi Wire. The magazine launched 33 years ago and was devoted to the universe of sci-fi and fantasy.

News of the magazine’s demise came last week on the Starlog web site. The site said that the magazine is undergoing a “massive digital initiative” and that a new digital store will launch next month including digital editions of the entire “Starlog” catalog.

“It is also at this time that we announce the temporary cessation of the current run of Starlog as a print magazine,” the statement read. “After 33 years, and considering the present state of the economy, we feel [it’s] time for a major revamp and will be temporarily discontinuing publication while the model and redesign of the magazine are contemplated and executed.

“The last print issue available for the time being is #374,” it continued, “while issue #375 will be available exclusively as a digital edition on the network in the very near future.”

Stopped reading Starlog when it got to the $8 mark. Now I read Geek Monthly
and the information I used to find Starlog can be found on the internet. Sad to see it go but time marches on.

Yeah, this was 33 years in the making. STARLOG just priced itself out of the market, if you ask me.

Yep – it just got too expensive. And there is the problem with the time it takes to get the mag published, too. In some cases, the article about the ‘great new show’ was canceled as the magazine hit the news stand!
