Blockbuster, TIVO Team Up

March 26, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

A new agreeement between Blockbuster and TIVO will see the delivery of Blockbuster’s digital library to TIVO and see Blockbuster begin selling TIVO devices in their brick and mortar stores according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Under the deal, Blockbuster OnDemand, which offers content that consumers can buy and rent, will be integrated into various broadband-connected TiVo DVRs. The service integration is expected in the second half of 2009.

Also, TiVo DVRs will be sold at thousands of Blockbuster stores and online.

The companies also plan a cross-marketing campaign.

“We are excited to be teaming with TiVo, the company that created the DVR, to make Blockbuster’s entertainment content readily available to their millions of subscribers,” said Blockbuster chairman and CEO Jim Keyes. “Ultimately, our vision is to work with TiVo so that their subscribers can access movies not only through our OnDemand service but also from our stores and through our by-mail service as well.”

TiVo president and CEO Tom Rogers said the deal further shows that TiVo is a “universal solution for content providers, making it a one-stop shop for any content through broadband or linear distribution straight to the TV.”

Netflix and Amazon.com already provide online video straight to TiVo users.
