Critics View “Galactica” Finale

March 18, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

Monday evening, about 100 television critics gathered in New York City to join Ron Moore in viewing the final two hours of “Battlestar Galactica.”   Moore swore the assembled audience to secrecy on how things play out for the final two hours of the series, so don’t expect too many SPOILERs to leak out in the coming days.

After viewing the episode, Moore took a few minutes to talk to the assembled crowd about the show and it’s coming to an end.   As he’s stated before, Moore said he felt strongly about bringing the series home and finishing it on a high note.

“I was ready to let it go creatively. I knew that the show had entered the endgame, and I knew that we were in the third act. It was time to wrap up the story,” he told SciFi Wire. “I wasn’t emotionally ready to let it go, and I’m still not. It was a very important experience for me. I love it. I loved working on it. I loved the people I got to know. I loved the end product. I liked watching the show. I was a fan of the show. So it’s hard to know that there’s not more “Galactica” coming. But as a producer and as a writer, I’m very happy that we got to end it on our own terms.”

Many fans may be concerned when they hear that Moore found the finale of HBO’s “The Sopranoes” to be a “brilliant” one.  Many fans of the HBO mob drama were left wanting more and uncertain of the way that series wrapped up.  Moore says that fans need not worry with “Galactica” because he’s brought the story to a definite resolution.

“Oh, it was very important to get the finale right. When you walk out after any production—a movie, a play, a TV show, a book—the final chapter is what you remember the most. It’s what you leave, the feeling that you leave with that creative piece of material that ultimately brings out and really informs how you feel about it overall. So it was really important to have the finale be meaningful and to have it work,” he said.

Fans can decide for themselves if Moore succeeded when the two-hour finale airs Friday on SciFi.

I just hope it does not end on a downer. These people deserve a break.
