Penguin Books unveiled the new cover for the sixth installment of “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” last evening according to SciFi Wire.
The new novel, penned by Eoin Colfer will continue the ever-increasingly mis-named trilogy that Douglas Adams began writing in the late 70’s. Colfer is the author of the “Artemis Fowl” series and was selected by the estate of Douglas Adams to write the next novel in the series.
Before “And Another Thing” hits bookstores in October, Penguin plans to issue new releases of the five previous installments in the series. Each reprint will feature a new cover and a new introduction to each book.
Adams originally created “Hitchhiker’s” as a series of radio dramas before turning it into a series of novels, a television program and then a feature-film. Each variation of the story has been slightly different. And if you’ve not read them the novels or seen the TV show or heard the radio dramas, you are missing something very special.

I’m not sure how I feel about this.
Jessica says
I’m not sure how I feel about this either. It’s not Douglas Adams.
TomCroom says
I’m with Arkle on this one… this has the potential to be something amusing or something very, VERY bad.
Daniel A says
This is just wrong.
There was a reason for Adams killing them off at the end of Mostly Harmless.
There shouldn’t be a “sixth” episode. Is the Adam’s estate short on cash? Short on new ideas? Jaysis, let Hitchhiker’s rest in peace along with Adams. This book shouldn’t have been written in the first place.
I will not buy this book. And neither should you.
This is a horrible, horrible, horrible idea.
Ziggy says
This is the first I’ve heard of this. Is it based on notes or outlines written by Adams before his demise? I’ll wait to hear what other readers think about it. There is a way this could be done properly, make it a “tongue-in-cheek” blatant “screw Adams, were in it for the money” attitude that Adam’s probably would have approved of. We’ll have to see.
Arkle says
Daniel: Actually, Adams always felt bad about ending the series the way he did, and before he died, he was considering turning his third Dirk Gently novel into a 6th Hitchhikers (or maybe even making it both, which would’ve been fun on so many levels).
Daniel A says
@Arkle:
Well… Shame on me =)
But I still think that it should be left there. It should be Adams that should write that book, and not someone else.
The last thing I would want is to turn it into what Herber Jr did with Dune.
Chris says
I do not know how i feel about it ether but there have been many books that have been taken over by a new author and have been fine for it. I will give the book a chance……..
With that said there is one last thing i have to say.
Don’t Panic!
Scott says
Um… no.
Fjord Prefect says
Is nothing sacred anymore? Yes, I know Adams thought about continuing the series after the fifth book, but he didn’t, and now he’s dead. Let’s not smear the memory of something unique and special just to make a buck. Wait, what am I saying? That’s how everything works on this planet, right? Anyway, I’ll probably buy the new book and read it, but really, what’s the point? There are five books in this trilogy and that, as they say, is that.
