Slice of SciFi News Brief–Casting News

March 5, 2009 By Michael Hickerson 1 Comment

The cast for “V” is growing.  We told you that Scott Wolf had joined the cast of the upcoming remake for ABC.  Now comes news that actor Morris Chestnut has been tapped for a leading role in the series.

The new “V” will follow a Homeland Security Agent battling the Visitors.  Chestnut will play her boyfriend, who has a dark secret.

Variety reports that Leonardo DiCaprio will star in director Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” for Warner Brothers. Details of the script and the exact nature of DiCaprio’s role are being kept under wraps, but filming on the project is expected to begin later this year.

Jon Bernthal and Johann Urb have been added to the cast of ABC’s “The Witches of Eastwick” according to Variety. Bernthal will play the unemployed husband of one of the witches. Urb will play a local news photographer/volunteer fireman who is the object of affection of another (Lindsay Price).

It was also announced last week that Lindsay Price has joined Jamie Ray Price as one of the title characters. It’s also rumored that “Life on Mars” actress Gretchen Mol could join the cast.

Amanda Seyfried is in negotations to join the cast of director Zach Snyder’s next project, “Sucker Punch.” Seyfried would join a cast that includes Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Evan Rachel Wood and Emma Stone.

“Sucker Punch” is an action-fantasy film set in the 1950s and following a girl who is confined to a mental institution by her stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. While there, she imagines an alternative reality to hide her from the pain, and in that world, she begins planning her escape, needing to steal five objects in order to get out before she is deflowered by a vile man.

Snyder, who co-wrote the script with Steve Shibuya, has described the fantasy world as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns,” blending such elements as dragons, B-52 bombers and brothels. Seyfried would play Babydoll, the institutionalized girl.

If deals are completed, the rest would play Seyfried’s fellow inmates, who also travel into the alternate reality. Hudgens would play a character named Blondie, Cornish would play Sweet Pea, Wood would play Rocket, and Stone would play Amber.

The shooting schedule is still being worked out.
