DiCaprio Linked to “War Games” Reboot

February 19, 2009 By News Droid 4 Comments

Following a new direct-to-home-theater sequel to the 80’s hit, it now looks like Hollywood is looking to reboot “War Games.”

Cinematical reports that a Production Weekly Twitter posting says that MGM is interested in making a new version of the original movie. And that actor Leonardo DiCaprio is interested in starring in the film. No word yet on what role DiCaprio would play or what the potential story might be.

It does raise the question of whether this is a good idea or not. Is the original enough of a classic and a product of its times to be remade today? Or could a reboot say something new? If you’ve read the new novel, “Daemon” by Daniel Suarez, a new movie about computers taking over networks and wreaking havoc could still work today. And it could be timely if done right….

Do we really need to see another reason not to use Vista???

Don’t see what War Games has to do with Vista, but the later is a good program for those who are adaptable to change. As a long time Windows user, it just took some open-minded getting used to. As for War Games, why would DeCaprio be interested? He’s too old for the Matthew Broderick role, and there wasn’t a truly significant role other than Broderick and Sheedy. Maybe they’re thinking of a sequel rather than a redo?
