If you’re holding your breath for more from the “Buffy”-verse, you might want to take this chance to exhale. “Buffy” creator Joss Whedon says that while “it’s certainly possible,” more “Buffy” isn’t “something I’m pursuing.”
“I feel like we did our thing,” he told TV Week, adding that the comic book season eight is “kind of a lark, which then it became the (speaks slowly) heaviest lark I’ve ever had to carry.”
“We could come back to those characters, but I would probably focus on something new before going back there. That was seven years of my life, even before the comic. Eventually your pony gets tired of doing its trick,” Whedon added.
“Nobody in the business ever approaches me about a “Buffy†project. It’s only fans. It’s not like I have people holding bags of money who are full of excitement about another project,” said Whedon.
For now, Whedon is interested in his upcoming series, “Dollhouse.” Whedon says the challenge he faces isn’t getting the fans to sample and watch his new show, but getting those out there who aren’t devoted Whedon followers to tune in.
“The fans are called fans—that’s already covered. That’s doesn’t mean they’ll all love [“Dollhouseâ€], but it means they’re more likely to check it out than Joe Blow. And we need Joe Blow,” he said. “[Previous TV executives] have made the mistake of just targeting [fans]. We need to find a way to communicate with people who wouldn’t normally find a way to watch this show, and Friday night is a better night to do that.”
Whedon still insists that Friday nights are a good slot for his show and not the kiss of death many fans perceive them to be. He also said that he sees the time slot as a good one, sandwiches between two of his favorites “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” and “Battlestar Galactica.”
““Battlestar [Galactica]†is back on, so, you know, life is worth living again,” Whedon said.

Better fix the typo in the headline. People are going to think it says “perusing”.

I’m afraid that, at this point, any non-comic Buffy runs a risk of being A Very Brady Christmas or other shlocky reunion special. Personally, I’m quite content for our shared game of make believe to stay two-dimensional for the foreseeable future.
