Quesada: Branagh “Gets” Thor

Quesada: Branagh “Gets” Thor

February 5, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 2 Comments

Earlier this week, Marvel Comics president Joe Quesada and writer Brian Michael Bendis chatted back and forth via Twitter.  Normally, this wouldn’t be newsworthy since it seems every celebrity (major and minor) is on Twitter these days.  But what makes this conversation interesting is comments made between the two on a meeting Quesada had with director Kenneth Branagh about the upcoming “Thor” movie.

“Okay, three words describe my day today ‘Branagh gets it!’” wrote Quesada, initiating the dialogue between the two creators. Asked by Bendis whether they could reveal what their meeting was about, Quesada elaborated a little more: “We can’t go into detail but maybe we can say that we met with Branagh about ‘Thor.’”

Of course, the conversation sparked an interest from a lot of Marvel fans.  Quesada told one “Sweet is when [Branagh] starts quoting continuity and past storylines. The man has immersed himself in Marvel.”

This could be great news for the upcoming “Thor” project and continue a winning-streak of solid comic-book adapations from Marvel Studios. Branagh has signed on as the director for the upcoming film and is rumored to play a small role in the film (not Thor).

I don’t think I can see Branagh as Thor himself…Perhaps directing?

…which is pretty much what the article said. He’s directing and may take a small role in the film (not the lead).
