Did you get your free 3-D glasses for tonight’s mid-season return of “Chuck”?
If you did, you can enjoy the show in all its 3-D glory. If you didn’t, there’s still time to pick up a free set at a store near you. And if you can’t find them, you should tune in anyway for one of the most enjoyable hours on television. Even without the 3-D glasses, “Chuck” should prove to be fun this evening.
NBC sent over a couple of sneak previews and behind the scenes looks at tonight’s episode for you to enjoy.
“Chuck” returns at 8 p.m. EST tonight on NBC.

Nope, no glasses. Kind of made a half-hearted effort to find them, but none of the numerous places I went to (two places) which were listed as carrying the glasses even knew what I was talking about. Perhaps I will ask around and see if anyone did manage to get them, and is interested in giving them to me before they throw them away.
I think this is a step back for what I consider a good show. From the previews, it seems to fall into the same trap as all other 3-D efforts: gratuitous and pointless scenes aimed not so much to advance the plot, but at giving you the illusion of someone trying to stick something up your nose.
My only hope is tonight’s episode is a stand-alone effort not important to the thread running through the series. If it is, I will have missed it, and it might diminish my enjoyment of future episodes. Episodes I hope will be firmly anchored within the confines of my flat screen TV.

I watched in 3D. Nothing “3D” gratuitous was in this episode. It was shot just like any other episode of Chuck. No knives coming at the camera, nothing jutting out at you. There was one homage to that kind of thing when the Buy More boss grabbed a donut to eat, but that was about it.
TV still has a long way to go to make 3D a viable and interesting enough technology for anyone to put their eyes through an hour long program. Still a lot of color is lost and the 3D isn’t as impressive as it is in big screen movies.
All that aside, the episode’s storyline was a pretty good one.

Hmmm. . . the previews for the show seemed to concentrate on 3-d-ish scenes; maybe I’m remembering wrong.
Anyway, I will wait to see it until I get some of the glasses as watching it without the glasses will just annoy me. Come to think of it, wearing the glasses will annoy me as well. I was hoping I could watch it without, but if the SuperBowl 3-d advert is any indication, I don’t think I could take an hour of it.
I might check on-line . . . perhaps the online show is shown as regular video.

We watched the episode last night . . . perhaps I was overly sensitive to it, but there were a number of scenes “for 3-D”, such as knives thrown at the camera, and a few other things. Nothing over the top, but I definitively recognized them as 3-D shots.
I scored some glasses from a co-worker’s kids, but we only wore them for about 10min or so. The effect was pretty good, but the very dark purple was a distraction I was constantly aware of. Perhaps my eyes are sensitive, but after the ten minutes I had to take the glasses off because my right eye was starting to bother me (I wanted to rub it, as if it was occluded and in need of clearing).
Personally, I think they have a looooooooong way to go before the experience is something I would enjoy, but then perhaps I’m not the target audience.
