“Red Dwarf” Returns

“Red Dwarf” Returns

January 28, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 6 Comments

“Red Dwarf” fans rejoice.  The hit BBC comedy series will return for a two-part special this Easter, according to the BBC.

The two-part storyline, called “Red Dwarf: Back to Earth” will reunited the original cast for a two part story and will will begin a decade after  the crew of the Red Dwarf were last seen, with a “shock development” throwing Rimmer, Lister, Cat and Kryten back to Earth.

Chris Barrie will return as Rimmer, Craig Charles as Lister, Danny John-Jules as Cat and Robert Llewellyn as Kryten, with the new storyline written and directed by Red Dwarf co-creator Doug Naylor. Filming of the new episodes begins next month.

Series creator and producer Grant Naylor will write and direct the episodes that will air on UKTV digital channel Dave over the Easter weekend.

The new two-part series Red Dwarf: Back to Earth will be followed by a “no holds barred” episode without sets, special effects or autocue.

The weekend will climax with Red Dwarf: the Making of Back to Earth, a behind-the-scenes special from the new episodes.

Oh, good. Bob Llewellyn mentioned this at Dragon*Con, but I hadn’t heard anything since. Easter weekend’s gonna be pretty full between this and the next Doctor Who special. 🙂
