“Legend of the Seeker” Renewed

“Legend of the Seeker” Renewed

January 28, 2009 By News Droid 34 Comments

The legend will continue…well, at least to a second season.

“The Legend of the Seeker,” which is based on Terry Goodkind’s “Sword of Truth” series has been renewed for a second season according to Variety.

The series has delivered solid ratings since it debuted in November and is used by many stations to fill the void left by a lack of programming from the CW on Saturday evenings.

Produced by Sam Raimi, the series is filmed in New Zealand and syndicated by Disney-ABC Domestic Television. The series runs on Tribune Broadcasting stations.

We stumbled upon it one Saturday a few weeks ago and it has become a must see/record. I’m glad to hear it’s sticking around since it’s one of the better shows out there among all the crap they’ve been putting on tv over the last few years.

I saw the first Episode and have watched it ever since. I drop buy from time to time on the http://www.legendoftheseeker.com website to re-watch the Episodes. This is the reason I did a search for comments as the website I mentioned has no way to leave comments. I have to say that I waited with much anticipation for Feb. 21st new Episode #15 titled “Home” as I watched it, it was like watching most of the Episodes all over again. I realize some of the episodes were needed but all the flashbacks were way to lengthly rewarding the faithful viewers with nothing but long lengths of episodes we have already seen. Maybe if this episode had been two hours long, maybe I would have felt better, but as it was, I felt cheated of the hour long episode that promised as all new.

This show is a complete piece of crap!!! Disney, Sam Raimi, and all of the other creative geniuses have given us another Xena/Hercules series wrapped up in a nice neat package that is a horrible, horrible retelling of the written series. They’ve taken something was absolutely brilliant and transformed it into pure crap!!! The series would’ve been so much better if they had stuck more to the original story as told by Terry Goodkind. I understand some changes have to made when taking a book and turning into something for TV or Movie format, but not as much as what has been done with this series. Terry Goodkind foreshadowed how horrible the show was going to be when he wrote the letter on his website about how things get changed from the original works and so on. What’s really sad, is that my wife, who loathes anything Sci-Fi or Fantasy with such a passion as to border on downright hatred, she actually gave the books a chance and surprisingly loved them more than I thought possible. Now this frigging show has come along and has turned her off to fantasy again. Fans everywhere would’ve been better served with 4 part mini-series every few months to tell the overall story of each book. Better yet, with Peter Jackson at the helm, and he ticked me off with some of the changes he made to the Lord of the Rings. Well, that’s my 2 cents. Just thought I’d give an oppinion from an incredibly disaapointed fan.

I have to agree with Daniel. I´ve been a die hard fan of the Terry Goodkind boos since the first one came out. They would have been better server with a mini series that stuck to the original story. What happened to the mud people? To Richard´s turning the sword of truth white and killing Dena after forgiving her? That is crucial to the character develpoment. What about the book of shadows, the boxes of orden are supposed to be in Darken Rahl´s power and Richard is supposed to have memorized the Book, and I could go on and on. PLEASE try to go back to the original story.

I just read a blurb from Craig Horner about the sad upcoming season 2 for this horrible show, that they planned to deviate further from the story line, wanting to do what they wanted and not borrow much else from the books. Well, after this latest travesty with Kahlen unleashing the Condar to save Richard and keep the power of the confessors from falling into Rahl’s hand (TV crap not in the original story) I’m done watching the show and advise people that hold the TRUE and ORIGINAL work of Terry Goodkind in high regard to not watch the show. Raimi and his sycophants have created a completely different and less appealing story, producing a show for the masses – STUPID people. The show is a complete and utter failure. Enjoy the sewage and refuse that is Legend of the Seeker. At least when Jackson and his team did Lord of the Rings, the changes were minor and didn’t deviate so horribly as to loose the epic of that story.

i love this show, my wife has become hooked, now my son and his wife watch also, everyone who comes by our house on sat afternoon gets hooked, not exactly the same as the books, which is a plus, why would we need to watch, and man is the confessor the hottest and most bad *** woman on the web 🙂

My question to the folks with the nasty language, etc., is: if you don’t like a show (any show), why torture yourself and watch??? If those of us who haven’t read the books can find some sense of enjoyment from them, why not let us do so in ignorant bliss? Or, haven’t you noticed the terrible line of shows all over the airways?

  18. Dan Morgan says

    May 25, 2009 at 1:11 am

I agree with all the people who have described this show as a piece of crap. It is always such a disappointment when the idiots in Hollywood think they know so much more than the author, and decide to change a great story into bullshi_. They must be watching too much American Idol and have to make every story “their own”. How are they going to recover from the fact that Darken Rahl is supposed to be Richard’s father? Is this story only destined to last through the inevitable encounter between Darken Rahl and Richard Rahl? Why hasn’t Richard manifested his own magic, both additive and subtractive? How can they ever possibly introduce Emporer Jagang in the story line they are pursuing? I can only hope these idiots never get their hand on the Wheel of Time series.

I have to laugh.. and laugh and laugh some more at the people who complain about the series not following the books.

Seriously you people need to go read Terry’s blog about his words on the show.

    http://www.terrygoodkind.com/news/news2.html

I’m happy as hell for Terry, glad he’s making some cash and getting his message out there.

Me, I love both the books and the TV series. They are different beasts and can easily live together. If you don’t like one or the other? Fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how wrong it is, and you can move along. 😉

I certainly do hold the books in high regard…they are fantastic! But I’ve enjoyed the TV show as well but I watch it KNOWING that it is completely different and strays WAY far away from the books. It’s acted fairly well…it certainly is no Buffy but ya know…it is what it is…It’s not my favorite tv show but it fills the gap when I’m between books! 🙂

  22. Coyote45 says

    May 26, 2009 at 11:07 am

I don’t see how the season finale was at all cool. Being a fan of the series despite the deviation from the books, I can’t believe they did that to the season finale. C’mon… time travel? Is that the best raimi and the writers can do? I mean it felt as if I was watching an episode filler instead of a season finale. And talk about the crappy way they killed off Dharken Rahl. No sword fight, no magic fight, just stick the sword in the box and blow yourself up. The turned Dharken Rahl into a freaking idiot. I got the strangest feeling they went over budget on the other episodes of the series which is why they had to go el-cheapo and do this crappy story for the finale. Reminds me of japanese TV series: great beginning, great story arc, really lousy ending. :p

I enjoy the show immensly. I am very happy that it is renewed. With all the “supposed” reality shows out there it is a nice change to have some fantasy, sci fi to lighten up the daily misery offered by cops, dr’s and csi story lines that just copy each other. My only complaint is that in my area is plays at 11:30 PM saturday night with a repeat of the prior weeks episode airing at 12:30AM. I stay up to watch it and have not missed an episode since it came on the air. I will occasionally watch the repeat as well. I have not read the books, but I am sure that in order to keep viewership there needs to be some adjustment to the script.
If I had my druthers I would also like to see some of Anne McCafferty’s books, such as the Pern series, or the Peagus series, any of her works, all would make a great sci-fi/fantasy show

  24. Strife says

    June 2, 2009 at 7:06 am

Having read the books and watched the series I would have to say I enjoyed them both for their own reasons. With the books you are able to share the adventures with the characters whereas with the show you are watching them. A TV series can’t key you in to the emotions, thoughts and feelings that the characters have inside like a book can. You can see it and sometimes even feel it a little but it’s nowhere near as deep as the writing can get. I don’t find myself nearly as upset as some others seem to be. Sure I’d rather see that Richard is the Book of Counted Shadows instead of having it or see the real way that Darken Rahl was defeated instead of stabbing the Book of Orden but when it really comes down to it you have to understand what the words “based on the series” really mean. I didn’t like elves at Helms Deep either but it didn’t make me say the LOTR movies were crap. Enjoyed the books and enjoy the show, kudos to both incarnations.

I too read the books and I have read hundreds of fantasy books. This Sword of Truth Series is at the top of my list for all time favorites, along with The Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams and the Death’s Gate series by Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis. I adored the books and am really enjoying the series. What I like is how they get into different situations and as in the book,s Richard always does the right thing even if everything is screaming for him to do the opposite. Thus in so many different ways showing how the truth, even tho it is more difficult of a path, always ends up being the right choice. I think this is a wonderful message, especially to kids, who now live in a world where the truth is hidden from us and lies seem to be socially acceptable as a justified way to a means. I do wish they would have put in the whole relationship between Richard and Dena, it was heart breaking and deep. But, I can see how a very sexual love affair might not be the best thing for family viewing. And I love that familes are watching this and getting the message from it, even if it strays from the books. I hope people who like the show will go back and read the books and get filled in on the things the show left out.

Oh, I also wanted to say about the people who it is on so late for them. You can go to http://www.legendoftheseeker.com/, where all the episodes are and watch them if you fall asleep or just miss one. As someone said they come out every Monday after the weekend. But, we should still try to watch it on tv, when we can, to keep the ratings high enough for another season.

I am so VERY happy that the Legend continues…. I was a little disappointed in the “season finale”, as well. It scared me!! It ended so quickly that I thought for sure another GREAT had “bitten the dust” & they were ending it — just in case it did not get picked up for another season!! So many of the good shows are dropped without any resemblance to a conclusion.

I am veryhappy that there will be another season. They can still bring back Darken Rahl — although with such a “fantasy”, there are always the “villains”. I thank the writers that they, at least gave us “an ending”

I have not read these books — my husband is the fantasy/science-fiction reader. I haven’t even read Harry Potter. However, since I was so enthralled with this TV series, I may actually begin to read these books. Thank you so much for a “well-done” adventure!!

I really love the books. I also like the show. The casting is good and yes they do stray from the books but IT’S TV! If they tried to follow the books we would be getting nowhere fast.

I am really excited about the renewal and read the books! (Awesome)
