McG Wants Will Smith For His “Nemo”

January 15, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

Last week, we brought you news that McG will direct the upcoming “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo.”  At the time, we didn’t have any reports on who would place the title role in the film.

Now, thanks to Latino Review, we can tell you that the director is pursuing actor Will Smith for the role.

“‘Man I’m trying to get Will Smith to do it, been trying to get a hold of him. I’ve been wanting to work with him for a long time already. That guy’s great,” McG told Latino Review while promoting his upcoming “Teminator: Salvation.” “The character Nemo in this film is more about obsession, he is obsessed and people tend to forget that when you become so obsessed you end up being the villain.”

So, would Smith work as Captain Nemo? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Open your eyes, Hollywood!! There are more actors out there than Will Smith, Johnny Depp and Keanu Reeves! Not every role is made for one of these three people, so quit trying to stamp a big name on the marquee and actually make a decent film!

I like Will Smith but he is not the right person for the role of Captain Nemo.

I don’t know… I think Will Smith would be right for the role… my only problem with him is in his genre epics he plays well will Smith at some point.

If I had to have a say in the matter there are a lot of fine actors in Bollywod that would rock the role as it was originally written.

I just read a powerful article about Will Smith at http://www.ebmpublishing.com. The article was wonderfully written and showed a different side of him. It discussed in detail his approach to life and commitment to improving the community. It’s an engaging, thought provoking article that gave me a new found level of respect for him.
