Leaving little doubt now about the late actor Heath Ledger’s shot at getting an Oscar nod for his performance in “The Dark Knight,” the actor who so deftly portrayed the Joker against Christian Bale’s equally dark Batman, won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture Drama. Ledger was found dead in his apartment a year ago due to an accidental prescription drug overdose. Chris Nolan, “The Dark Knight” director, accepted the award on behalf of Ledger’s family.
The other big winners of the night were Micky Rourke for “The Wrestler,” Kate Winslett in “Revolutionary Road” and “Slumdog Millionaire” walked away with Best Picture.
The 2009 Golden Globe awards was held last night and is sponsored by the Foreign Press Assoc. It is generally viewed as a pre-curser to possible Academy Awards nominees/winners.
