The only thing I know about Matt Smith is what I’ve seen in that BBC Confidential interview. He seems okay. I’m sure that after a couple of episodes I’ll get used to him the way I got used to David Tennant.
A bit of a pointless poll, IMHO – only the UK-based SOSF audience are likely to have seen his other work in passing.
Less than 10% of the 64 respondents so far seem to have a definitive view on him, and you can’t even count on 100% those having watched him do anything beyond the Doctor Who Confidential interview.
Slice of SciFi has a huge audience in the U.K. and throughout Europe, but I’m sure there are still plenty of Americans also who may know a little something about Mr. Smith.
But, regardless, we are an international site and must always be inclusive in everything we try to do or write, that is why we also have an International News Desk segment from time to time on the show and cover SF and genre-related news from all over the 4 corners of this planet called Earth.

Sam,
Well, it’s your site – I was stating my opinion only. And as a UK-based Science Fiction fan I certainly was not trying to suggest that you shouldn’t address international issues.
But my point remains (and is STILL borne out by the poll responses to date) that you are asking a question that a large majority of your readership is ill-equipped to answer.

Having freshly watched The Ruby in the Smoke, I can say he appears to be able to act (always a plus). He has the look of a young Nicholas Lindhurst mixed with a bit of Tom Baker, I’m intrigued expecially since Moff will be writing and not RTD. We live in hope.

@David I am a US based Doctor Who (and many other Beeb based) fan of LONG Standing, and I am here to tell you that I have heard fans from both side of the pond jump to conculsions on this. It is simply to early to tell even having seen some of his other works.

Matt Smith reminds me a little of the tenth Doctor as well. But I shure will miss David Tennant.

Eccleston hooked me on Dr. Who. I love his zaniness, zest, and cheekiness. I really hate to see him go, but will withhold judgement until I see how the new doc does. Nevertheless, I really really liked Eccleston.

In my view the show died when Tom Baker left… Christopher Eccleston gave it a whole new lease of life and David Tenant is almost as good as Tom Baker… The new guy does seem a little on the young side to pull it off, but I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and reserve judgement til I’ve actually seen him in the role.
Heck no-one could ruin the show like Sylvester McCoy 🙂
