Well, at least we’ll know why our alien overlords are so ticked off at us when they come to conquer the planet.
20th Century Fox’s release of the remake of “The Day the Earth Stood Still” will not only be global, but universal. Fox will beam the movie into space toward Alpha Centauri as part of the film’s big opening today.
Fox has hired the Deep Space Communications Network in Cape Canaveral to transmit the entire movie. The transmission will travel at 186,000 miles per second through space, and the movie can be intercepted and viewed at any point as it makes its way to the Alpha Centauri.
“We are thrilled about beaming this film into space. This will be our first full length movie transmission. And what could be more relevant to send into Deep Space than a movie about the Earth’s acceptance of visitors from outer space,” commented Jim Lewis, Managing Director, Deep Space Communications Network.
The good news is over new alien overlords in Alpha Centauri won’t get the film until 2012. So, we’ve got a few years to prepare ourselves for annihilation.
Perhaps that is the trigger that brings the Mayan calendar (and some say the world) to an end in December of 2012.
