Russo Review : “Lost” Season Four DVD & Blu-ray

Russo Review : “Lost” Season Four DVD & Blu-ray

December 11, 2008 By Joe Russo Leave a Comment

Lost has been reinvigorated

J.J. Abrams is the king of television, and nothing has represented his rise to dominance more than the powerful cultural impact of Lost. Gearing up for its fifth season, Lost Season 4 comes home on a fantastic DVD and Blu-ray set that will allow fans to get lost in the show’s best season yet over and over again.

Thanks to the writers strike, Lost: Season 4 is the leanest season concerning the Oceanic Airlines incident yet. However, a smaller amount of episodes means less filler, and with that, more story. While the franchise has almost always relied heavily on flashbacks to catch audiences up on the histories of the characters, showing how they arrived on the fated island, Abrams and company switch things up a bit this season, offering glimpses into characters futures.

Through the use of flash-forwards, Lost has been reinvigorated, allowing audiences to get caught up in the conspiracy about which characters did or did not make it off the island, and the repercussions their future will ultimately have on the present story. Perhaps no episode does this better than “The Constant”, an installment that will keep fans coming back again and again.

Buena Vista Home Entertainment has outdone themselves with this comprehensive DVD and BluRay release. Dubbed “The Expanded Experience” Lost enthusiasts will have themselves a very, merry holiday season indeed when they unwrap Season 4 because these discs are stacked. The set includes commentaries, deleted scenes, bloopers plus a plethora of behind the scenes glimpses of the show. Perhaps the most interesting is “The Island Backlot”, which showcases how filmmakers cheat the programs incredible Hawaiian studio for locations around the world. Plus, if you’re looking to introduce someone to the addictive series, “Lost in 8:15” should bring them up to speed in less than ten minutes.

With only two seasons remaining, the clock is ticking until audiences have all the answers. Will Season Five hold up to the new standard of excellence that Season 4 set? Only time will tell, but for now viewers have a fantastic DVD and BluRay experience awaiting them.
