Hollywood had another solid weekend at the box-office according to preliminary results. The big winner of the weekend was DreamWorks Animation’s “Madagasar: Escape 2 Africa,” taking in $63.5 million this weekend. The box-office take was $10 million more than expert projected Friday.
Coming in second was another new movie, the R-rated comedy “Role Models.” The movie rang up $19.3 million in ticket sales.
Bernie Mac’s final film “Soul Men” opened in sixth place, taking in $6.5 million. “High School Muscial,” “Changeling” and “Zach and Miri Make a Porno” rounded out the top five for the weekend.
Overall, ticket sales rose 80% over last weekend and 32% over the same weekend in 2007.
