For a franchise celebrating its 40th anniversary, “Planet of the Apes” is still generating headlines. On this week’s show we brought you news about the upcoming “Timeline of the Planet of the Apes: The Definitive Chronology,” which is a must-have for all apes fans.  And the original Charleton Heston classic is set for a Blu-Ray release next week, packed with new extras and features on this pivotal and influential film.
After spanning five films, a TV series and an animated Saturday morning cartoon, “Apes” got a remake a few years ago from director Tim Burton. And while the film was commercially successfully, most people agree the new “Apes” is a pale imitation of the original movie.Â
Now comes word that a second reboot of the “Apes” franchise may be in the works.Â
CHUD reports a new “Apes” movie wouldn’t be a sequel to the Tim Burton film nor would it be a continuation of the popular 20th Century Fox franchise. Instead, this film would be a remake of the fourth installment of the “Apes” series, “Conquest of the Planet of the Apes.”
“Conquest” Â was set in a dystopian future of 1999Â where apes had been domesticated and told the story of Caesar, the first ape with speech who started the events that led to a world where monkeys were on top and humans were dumb beasts.
The new script entitled “Genesis: Apes” by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver is set in a more contemporary present day society and has Caesar being created by a genetic scientist who ends up taking it home and raising him as the son he and his wife were unable to conceive.
After killing a human in an attack and being put on trial, things turn like ‘Conquest’ with Caesar leading a campaign to unite the apes and violently overthrow humanity.
The concept has been kicking around the halls of 20th Century Fox for some time now, according to reports. However, there has been no official word on if this concept could make it to the big-screen. Right now it’s just an idea–and an intriguing one at that.
Am I the only one who actually liked Burton’s re-make?

this is a coming from a person who’s never seen any planet of the apes stuff or even new they make ape comics.
I enjoyed it. i wish Tim had been given the chance to finish his thought at the end. A follow up movie would have been great.

my only concern about new apes movie, is that they would ruin it like the awful remake. i don’t understand the people who liked the remake. it had no character at all. i thought i was watching a terrible tv movie. and the best thing i ever heard about the remake were the ape costumes thats it. way to hide behind the truth of a terrible movie. they obviously were trying to pull in a big paycheck without any deep concept
