I hope this movie is good in spite of Reeves. Gort looks nifty, though..

I’d be happier with no remake whatsoever. I’m not in the Keanu Haters Club like some people, but even taking that into account, I am still not thrilled with this trailer.

Looks like they’re just using the title, but reworking the story. Rather, updating it. Like any movie, if I don’t like it, I’ll ignore it, but the trailer gives me no such ndication, and to be truthful, I was never all that impressed with the original. Plus Michael Reannie was a singularly unengaging actor.

    Side musings:
    – I like that the alien has some powers of his own instead of just relying on Gort.
    – I wonder if the alien and Gort are one and the same.
    – like in the first, it’s hard to take a moral stance if your stance is to destroy what you don’t like.

    Back to the movie:
Keanu is not my favorite actor, but then I really can’t point to any that are. Based on this trailer, it will at least be worth a rental since I cannot imagine it being worse than Transformers . . . well, I suppose it can; it would just have to work at it.

Well perhaps my standards are lower but I’d sooner see Hollywood making reworked or re-imagined versions than none at all. Getting sniffy based on trailers, stills etc., is not conducive for the Hollywood types to invest in scifi genre.

Yes I know trailers are there to catch your interest with bites of the highlights but lets wait until it arrives then tear it to pieces 🙂

Having said that, I do cringe when I see Keanu as the lead – hopefully he won’t end up being the “default” guy for (what hopefully won’t be B grade) scifi.

Finally (cheering heard) I’m not so sure if there is any value in comparing this “version” with the original. The original is almost 60 years old, made in another time etc. Maybe we’re just to jaded for the old version to strike a chord anyone’s imagination today.

I look at this trailer and got to tell you the truth…it does not make me hate it or get excited for it. Besides some nice looking action scenes, and some lackluster acting,it looks like a typical invasion film worthy of nothing more or less than my netflix queue

Meanwhile, I might spend money on this movie, depending on what you all say about it when it comes out.
