Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle have signed on to do more Marvel. Both actors will play their respective roles of Tony Stark and Col. Jim Rhodes for the upcoming “Avengers” movie, as well as “Iron Man 2.”
“Quarantine” director is set to direct a story written by M. Night Shyamalan called “Devil.” Shyamalan will produce the project with Media Rights Capital. Story will be the first of three scary films to be written and produced by MRC and M. Night, according to Variety.
It’s official. David Geffen, a co-founder of DreamWorks, has left the the company after Steven Spielberg made the deal to move the filmmaking company from under the banner of Paramount. Geffen, along with the third member of the DreamWorks team, Jeffrey Katzenberg, still owns a sizable chunk of DreamWorks Animation which will be staying under Paramount’s roof.
Pay TV subscriptions have seen a phenomenal growth over the past year in spite of the overall poor showing of the worldwide economy. Subscriptions in the Asia-Pacific quarter of the world are up by as much as 17% over the same time last year.
If you’re not ready for the big Digital TV (DTV) crossover then for some viewers, beginning as early as December 1 you will be without local programming on some channels unless you have cable, satellite or a DTV converter. Full DTV goes into affect Feb. 2009.
Fox and CBS were the big ratings winners this past week with ABC in a close third and NBC only slightly above the CW. The reason for Fox being on top? “Fringe” and baseball playoffs. CBS scored big with it’s Monday night comedy trio of “The Big Bang Theory,” “How I Met Your Mother” and “Two and a Half Men,” as well as newcomer “The Mentalist” and Friday night staple “Ghost Whisperer.”
Princes William and Harry are expected on the red carpet on Wednesday at the royal world premiere of the latest James Bond movie “Quantum of Solace,” which sees Daniel Craig reprise the role of super spy 007.
Keanu Reeves, star of the upcoming SF thriller “The Day the Earth Stood Still,” told jurors in his testimony yesterday in the civil case brought against him by a photographer that he moved his Porsche forward slowly to try to get the paparazzo, Alison Silva, to move out of his way. Reeves had just finished visiting a relative in Rancho Palos Verdes in March 2007 and had been followed by Silva from the Sunset Strip.
Universal has made a six-figure deal to get the film rights to the graphic novel series “Villains.” The plot, will follow a young man who is failing at life and finds purpose when he meets a Svengali-style villain who takes him under his wing. The Viper Comics graphic novel is written by Adam Cogan and Ryan Cody. “Villains” is to be adapted by Matt Jennison and Brent Strickland, the same writing team now working on the big screen version of “Wonder Woman.”
