Craig turns down Thor

Craig turns down Thor

October 23, 2008 By Michael Hickerson 1 Comment

While he was ready to assume the mantle as the world’s most famous spy, actor Daniel Craig wasn’t ready to assume the mantle of a Norse God. According to SciFi Wire, Craig was offered the role of Thor in the upcoming Marvel Studios movie but turned it down.

“They spoke about it, but I just thought, ‘I can’t play Bond and Thor.’ What am I, on some stupid f–king power trip? I can’t imagine, blond hair and a big hammer,” Craig said.

“It would’ve been too much of a statement, and physically, [Bond] is kind of as physical as I want to get in movies at the moment,” Craig said. “To go and do another role that’s just as physical … ”

Craig was also asked about a potential follow-up for last year’s “The Golden Compass” and if there was any hope for seeing the last two installments of the trilogy on the silver-screen.

“I don’t know what to say,” Craig said. “It failed here. To their mind I think it failed here, unfortunately. It did fantastically worldwide.”

The final decision to continue the series rests with Warner Brothers, who recently purchased struggling New Line Cinemas.  New Line produced “The Golden Compass” and many the gamble on “Compass” as being one of the reasons New Line was forced to fold.

“Warner Brothers have it, so you’ll have to lobby them,” Craig said. “I’d love them to do it again, because I love the books. I think there’s a great story to tell.”

I’d be in favor of them re-booting the Golden Compass like Marvel did with the new Hulk movie. Apart from Nicole Kidman’s being delicously evil, and Ian McKellan’s voice for the armored bear, I was not pleased with that movie.
