His head shape is too different to work. His face is too oval for the role. They’ve already established what the character looks like in the comics, he has a rounder face.. Terrance Howard actually looks like the character in the comic. If they could find someone that looks similar, I would be all for it. Maybe I’m thinking too much into this. I hate when they change actors for a character anyway.

IMO, this is an issue of greed. Plain and simple.
If published reports are acurate, T. Howard DEMANED/ASKED for double the salary from the first movie. Now, I’m not against anyone asking for a reward/raise/bonus for a good job, but to expect a 100% increase in pay is a bit much for me. If he had asked for a increase of 25-50%, I could support that.
For us as the movie watching consumers, this effects our costs. The Increases in actor salaries raise the cost of our movie tickets. If you like paying $10 (or more) to watch a movie in a theater with overpriced consesion, ill-mannered children, and unconfortable seating, then suport Howard. If rather not have to take out a small loan, then support Marvel’s decision to replace Howard.

I am a huge fan of Iron Man, the comics and the film and I never liked Howard in the role. I think Cheadle is a much better actor and might carry a War Machine spin off film with a lot more gravitas. In regards to his appearance, I just don’t think it matters to the vast majority of people.

Appearance isn’t the be all and end all when it comes to characters – and Don Cheadle has he acting chops to do the role justice. I’m excited about the casting choice 🙂
The film made a killing in the box office but I bet the Howard still got just whatever was originally agreed upon when it was projected to become just an average hit. Now that Iron Man is so popular of course he’d be asking for more money. The film made so much more than expected. Someone is making the money off the next film and I’d rather some of go to the people in the film. Perhaps twice what he made before is just because the first film made twice what was projected as will this second film. Seems reasonable. That being said, I like his replacement Cheadle (who probably should be receiving twice what Howard did and then some since he is such an awarded actor and likely better anyway) and don’t mind him taking over. I am just a bit surprised that they didn’t value Howard more. He was good in the role.

Yes, the Iron Man stock just went up tremendously. I was already not a big fan of Terrence’s performance, now “Rhodey” just got upgraded from junk stock to A-paper.
Terrence’s agent needs to be fired for not making this work out, though. He should have opted to get his money on the back-end. Dumb.
Oh well.
Howard’s next flick – Hustle & Flow 2: Just Give Me One Mo’ Chance!
If anyone can pull this thing off it will be Don Cheadle. I applaud Paramount and Favearu for making this choice.

Not knowing the financial details behind the decision, I can’t condemn or applaud Howard or the production team for parting ways. As an outsider, I don’t have any idea what was offered/requested. All I can say is that Howard did a great job as Rhodes in the first film.
That said, I generally enjoy Don Cheadle’s work, so I’m sure he’ll do just fine in the role.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Howard was the first person cast for the Iron Man movie…and was paid MORE than Robert Downey Jr, Jeff Bridges or Gweneth Paltrow! This reason, and also rumblings that Howard was difficult to work with on the set (If you’ve seen him in interviews, he does come off a bit eccentric), had Marvel offer a 50% reduction in salary for the sequel. I agree that a good agent could have kept Howard his gig, but Downey and Jon Favreau were the big guns you could not do without…

Look folks, It’s Cheadles presence the captivates audiences more so than his ability to act. There are some artist that simply have a presence about them. Don Cheadle just happens to be one of those artists. Yes, Howard is a good actor, however, he lacks that presence factor. Cheadle has both the ability (to act) and
captivate his audience simply by being shot in the frame. Excuse me, but I don’t know of any acting school that teaches this. Yes, it mere talent. Thanks for reading.
