If you wanted to read Cormac McCarthy’s novel “The Road” before you saw it on the big-screen, the good news is you’ll have more time to do so.Â
According to SciFi Wire, the Weinstein Company is quietly moving back the release of the big-screen adaptation of “The Road” from November 14th to mid-December. The movie, starring Viggo Mortensen, was scheduled for a limited release on November 14th and a wide release on November 26th.  Distributor Dimension Films (part of the Weinstein Company) has shifted the release date until December and there is word the movie could be delayed until 2009.Â
“The Road” is a post-apocolyptic tale of a man and a boy wandering a bleak landscape.  According to reports, while filming is complete, the final cut of the movie isn’t ready.
One reason for the move back could be a shuffling of the holiday movie season. When the sixth Harry Potter film moved to next summer, it opened up a vaccum that the latest James Bond movie and the much-anitcipated “Twilight” grabbed.  This could be one reason for the move of “The Road” to a time when audiences can find it and it won’t be overshadowed by Bond or vampires.

It was a great allegorical book. So C’mon. I’m tired of waiting and waiting. Get the damn movie out here!

You’re not sure The Road will translate to the screen all that well? Thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I mean its all action and sparsely written descriptive passages. In fact, they could probably skip the adaptation phase and shoot the film directly from the book. Look at No Country for Old Men. I couldn’t even read it after seeing the movie. But you’re right, roving bands of cannibals and postapoclyptic landscapes are really hard to portray on the silver screen. What you should be really be worried about is Hollywood going above and beyond the book, expanding the wife’s role (Charlize Theron) into a drawn out, flashback-driven romantic subplot.
